FCMC Visits TLC
Darla Henely, RN, Director of Education at Floyd County Medical Center was happy to be able to visit children at The Learning Center. Each student received a "goody" bag containing items that are commonly used in the hospital. The children learned about the importance of washing their hands. Students and staff had the chance to practice good hand washing techniques by using "Glitter Bug Potion", a special lotion that is only visible under a black light. After applying the lotion and viewing their hands, student washed, and then looked at their hands again under the light. The Glitter Bug Potion simulates germs, and helps reinforce the steps of proper hand washing. Any area not washed well will still "glow" under the black light. With the flu season here, it is important for all of us to wash often and use these steps:
Step #1 - Wet hands with WARM, running water
Step #2 - Add soap and rub hands together, front and back, thumbs, between fingers and under nails for about 20 seconds (this is about how long it takes to sing the ABC song)
Step #3 - Rinse well with running water
Step #4 - Dry hands with a clean paper towel & use towel to turn off water
