Diabetes Education

Whether you have recently been diagnosed with diabetes or you have had diabetes for a while now, Floyd County Medical Center's Diabetes Self Management Program can help. We can provide you with the information and skills needed to successfully manage this complicated disease.

Our Diabetes Self Management Program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association and certified by the Iowa Department of Public Health.

For those newly diagnosed with diabetes, individual and group classes are available. The classes include information about: how diabetes happens, medications used to control diabetes, nutrition, exercise, blood glucose monitoring, learning to cope with the emotional issues related to diabetes, making lasting lifestyle changes, and ways to prevent long-term complications.

Education is also available for those who have been living with diabetes for a while and need a refresher, or have had changes in their treatment regimen.

Let us help you learn how to take good care of yourself, and deal with the day-to-day challenges of living with diabetes. Controlling diabetes is in your hands. Information is the key. The more knowledge you have, the better you will be able to manage your diabetes, and the better you will feel.

FCMC also sponsors a Diabetes Support Group. See our monthly calendar on the Home Page for dates and times.

I owe your hospital and employees for the good health I have at 90 years of age.

My hospital stay was fantastic! I would highly recommend FCMC to anyone expecting a baby. The experience exceeded my expectations.
