Lab
Floyd County Medical Center's Laboratory is a full-service laboratory that offers a full range of services and provides blood collections, specimen testing, as well as health screenings for businesses in the community. Our laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and licensed by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA).
Both medical technologists (MT) and medical laboratory technicians (MLT) are employed. MTs have a bachelor's degree in medical technology or the life sciences with 3 or 4 years of course work and one year of rotational clinical experience. MLTs have an associate degree and have completed an approved MLT program with 6 months of rotational clinical experience. All are certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Pathology services are provided by Pathology Associates of Mason City, IA.
Blood products for transfusion are supplied by the Blood Center of Iowa. All of their blood supply is obtained by volunteer donations. To reach the Blood Center for the nearest blood drive, call 800-287-4093 or visit their website at www.bloodcenterofiowa.org.
Hours of Operation for Out-patient (OP) Services
- Monday - Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Saturday 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- M - F preferable for OP testing

No appointments are necessary for routine testing. Patients must stop at the Admissions desk to register prior to coming to the laboratory. (Exception: See Wellness Laboratory Testing).
