Surgery
At Floyd County Medical Center, we offer a complete range of surgical services. Our surgical team consists of a general surgeon, an orthopedic surgeon and several specialty surgeons, along with a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, seven Registered Nurses and one Licensed Practical Nurse. Our highly qualified and trained staff is dedicated to providing excellent patient care.
- General Surgery (Dr Chong) including: Laparoscopic and Open Hernia Repair, D&C, Breast Biopsy, Mastectomy, Laparoscopic and Open gallbladder, Laparoscopic and Open Appendectomy, Bowel Resection, Hysterectomy, Cesarean Section, Tubal ligation, Vasectomy, Hemorrhoidectomy, Excision of Pilondial Cyst, Vascular access for dialysis, Endocrine surgeries including Breast, Thyroid and Parathyroid, Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy are some of the many procedures performed.
- Orthopedics (Dr Lyons) including: Total Hip Replacement, Total Knee Replacement, Carpal Tunnel Release, Ganglion Cyst Excision, Rotator Cuff Repair, Trigger Finger Release, Epidural Steroid Injection, Fracture Repair, also Shoulder, Knee, Elbow and Wrist Arthroscopies.
- Ear, Nose and Throat (Dr Dettmer) including: T&A, Myringotomy and Tube Placement, Excision of Skin Lesion, and Septoplasty.
- Ophthalmology ( Dr Brenton) including: Cataracts and Intropic Repairs.
- Podiatry (Dr Morreale) including: Bunionectomy, Correction of Hammer Digit, Bone Spurs, and Toenail Removal.
- Urology (Dr McGregor, Dr Mullhalland, Dr Rier, and Dr Schurtz) including: Cystoscopy and Fulguration of Bladder Tumors.

Our newly remodeled surgical area consists of a same day surgery area, three surgical suites, and a post anesthesia care unit.

General Surgeon
Daniel C. Chong, M.D.

Dr. Chong received his M.D. degree from Kaohsiung Medical College in Taiwan in 1976. He did his residency at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, MA and McKeesport Hospital in McKeesport, PA. Dr. Chong has been a member of the American Board of Surgery since 1985 and holds the AMA Physician's recognition award for continuing medical education hours. Dr. Chong's primary specialty is General Surgery, with a secondary specialty of Gastroenterology.
Orthopedic Surgeon
Val Lyons, M.D.
Dr. Lyons received his M.D. degree from the University of the West Indies in Jamaica in 1981.
Fellowship was at Royal Orthopedic Hospital in London, England.
Fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma was at Louisville, Kentucky.
Dr. Lyons has experience in Arthroscopic Surgery of small and large joints; including shoulders, knees, ankles, elbows and wrists. Dr. Lyons also has reconstructive surgery experience of total joints, including; hips, knees, wrists and fingers.
