Levels of Care/Services Offered
Surgical Day Care
Many minor surgeries are done on this level of care. Sometimes after these surgeries are done a patient may stay overnight for continued monitoring if medically necessary. Usually the stay does not exceed 24 hours, with an average stay of 4-6 hours. Medicare does not cover drugs that can be self-administered in the Surgical Day Care setting. Surgical Day Care is usually covered by Medicare Part B or by private insurance.
Outpatient Observation
A patient seen either in the Emergency Department or a physician’s office with medical need to be monitored in the hospital setting may be placed in outpatient observation status. A patient is normally monitored for 24 hours. Your health care provider will reassess your condition and either discharge you home or admit you to acute care. Services used during outpatient observation are covered by Medicare Part B or by private insurance. Medicare does not cover medications that can be self-administered in the outpatient observation setting. You may file under your Medicare prescription supplement for reimbursement of these medications.
Acute Care
This level of care is when a patient is acutely ill or has undergone major surgery. The length of stay is determined by your health care provider based on diagnostic testing and your insurance company’s benefit guidelines. Inpatient acute hospital care is covered by Medicare Part A or by private insurance.
Swing Bed
The Swing Bed Program provides a unique opportunity for health care providers to care for their patients who may require additional rehabilitation after an illness or injury following a three day acute hospitalization at Floyd County Medical Center or another hospital. We will provide specialized care to aid in recovery and prepare you for an appropriate discharge.
Some examples of Swing Bed Services are speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, daily dressing changes with our wound and ostomy nurses, and intravenous medication therapy.
Certain criteria must be met prior to a swing bed admission. The Swing Bed length of stay is determined by the patient’s progression toward set goals, daily participation in therapies, and a reevaluation by your health care provider. Swing Bed is usually covered by Medicare Part A or by private insurance.
