Registered Dietitians can help patients with everything from managing chronic diseases to helping athletes consume the correct nutrients. According to, Registered Dietitians (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) “are the food and nutrition experts who can translate the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living”. There are many instances in which you can confide in an RD or RDN. We will be talking about 5 different reasons you should think about partnering up with one for your health.

Develop Athletic Performance

A Dietitian can assist a marathon runner, a professional football player, or an avid intramural ultimate frisbee player! They can help any type of athlete achieve their health and fitness goals through nutrition and eating the right foods. They will know what kind of foods are going to help you with your sport and abilities. Not all athletes require the same eating habits and nutrients. There is no “one-size-fits-all” diet for athletes, so confide in a Dietitian who can help determine what plan will work best for you. All you have to do is share with your RDN what changes you would like, and they will help make it happen. They can assist with injury recoveries, meal scheduling, and so much more. If you want to make strides in your fitness abilities, look into visiting an RD or RDN!

Discuss and Kick Start Losing or Gaining Weight

An RDN is going to be able to create a healthy way for you to lose or gain weight! The first thing they will decide is if it’s in your best interest to lose/gain weight, to begin with. Then they will help plan the diet and schedule for you in order to achieve it in the most efficient and safe way possible. Not only can they help with the food aspect, but they can also help with the exercise and fitness plans that go along with it. Instead of following the trending fad diets, a Dietitian is going to give you advice that keeps you healthy for the long run.

Assist with Current or Future Pregnancy

Registered Dietitians are well versed when it comes to helping pregnant women or mothers-to-be. They know the specific nutrients that help with a healthy pregnancy. Eating while pregnant can be different for some women, so it is still important that all of the necessary foods and nutrients are still being consumed. This is important for both the mother and baby. Once the baby is born, the same guidelines apply. It is important that the mother and baby are receiving all the important elements that food provides. An RD or RDA knows how to help mothers and provide them with all of the necessary information and planning.

Manage Chronic Diseases

Registered Dietitians regularly help patients that have diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc. The things you put into your body can affect all of these different chronic diseases. An RD or RDN knows exactly what foods will have what effects, and they know what to do in order to avoid that. Dietitians can help create schedules and plans so that you are getting the correct amounts of different foods, vitamins, nutrients, etc. This will help keep chronic diseases placid and should keep you from having any problems.

Create a Plan for Allergies/Food Restrictions

When you or someone in your family has certain allergies or food restrictions, it can be very hard to know what to eat or serve for your family. Registered Dietitians and Registered Dietitian Nutritionists can help you plan out meals and give you new food recommendations. They can also teach you what to look for and what to avoid when it comes to grocery shopping or ordering food. It is important to prevent allergic reactions, while still getting all of the vital supplements from food. They can help plan for dangerous allergies, but they can also help you if you want to cut something out of your diet. Dietitians help people who have chosen to go vegetarian, gluten-free, etc. They help to assist them in getting all of the necessary foods while respecting the food restrictions set in place.
